osx - How to find printer error log on mac os x? -
i have printer problem when want print document, printer queue says "backend failed" , pause.
my computer mac os x, version sierra 10.12.6, , printer canon ir adv4235 using smb protocol access. have tried following ways:
- download latest driver canon website, , reinstall driver
- remove old printer
- add new printer
but still same problem.
so, want find specific error, , searched /var/log keyword "backend" no related result. provide help? in advance.
update: using command cupsctl --debug-logging
,i got more messages. following error messages seem helpful. d [31/jul/2017:13:47:44 +0800] [job 25] pid 55276 (/usr/libexec/cups/backend/smb) crashed on signal 4. ... d [31/jul/2017:13:47:46 +0800] cupsdsetbusystate: newbusy="printing jobs , dirty files", busy="printing jobs , dirty files" d [31/jul/2017:13:47:46 +0800] [job 25] pid 55275 (/library/printers/canon/cups_printer/bins/capdftopdl) stopped status 1. [31/jul/2017:13:47:46 +0800] [job 25] backend returned status -4 (crashed) d [31/jul/2017:13:47:46 +0800] discarding unused job-state-changed event... [31/jul/2017:13:47:46 +0800] [job 25] printer stopped due backend errors; please consult error_log file details.
but, tried run /usr/libexec/cups/backend/smb
, ok. don't know if other parameters cause crashed.
could give me hint?
the log file want /var/log/cups/error_log; default doesn't contain info. can increase logging great deal turning on debug logging cupsctl --debug-logging
(and turn off cupsctl --no-debug-logging
). in macos 10.12 takes effect immediately, in older versions needed restart cups daemon sudo launchctl stop org.cups.cupsd
.
