Syntax error upgrading compatibility level SQL Server -

we have sql server 2005 db's preparing upgrade. part of number of them have compatibility_levels set 80 , need change them @ least 90.

i'm using following tsql syntax upgrade each db via script:

alter database dbname set compatibility_level = 90 go

but receive error:

msg 102, level 15, state 1, line 2 incorrect syntax near '90'.

any ideas wrong great.

for sql server 2005 believe need use stored procedure:

exec dbo.sp_dbcmptlevel @dbname=n'dbname', @new_cmptlevel=90 go
